It’s no big secret that the Nintendo Switch isn’t quite as powerful when compared to the PS4 and Xbox One. In fact, Nintendo’s strategy time and time again hasn’t been to compete on the basis of power, but instead to design an accessible console supported by a strong lineup of those Nintendo games we all know and love. It has proven to be a winning game plan for the Big N as the Switch has done remarkably well, continuing to outperform its previous Nintendo consoles and outpacing many expect sales projections. And yet in spite of this, there are still plenty of games that haven’t made their way to the Nintendo Switch. So here are five current generation games we hope to see a release on Nintendo’s latest console
Steve’s Pick – Fire Pro Wrestling: World
I only recently started playing this gem of a wrestling game on the PS4 and I am absolutely loving it. But the entire time I was playing it, I could not shake the feeling that Fire Pro Wrestling: World would be better suited as a game I could experience on the go. Fire Pro Wrestling: World has got a ton of micromanagement aspects via character customization, such as allowing you to edit move sets, mess with stats, and even pick and choose between a variety of costume pieces. I’ve actually spent more time fine tuning my character than actually wrestling other players. I would like to handle all that character tweaking on the go or from the comfort of my bed so I can can spend my time on the big screen doing the high octane wrasslin’.
Andy’s Pick – River City Ransom: Underground
Any Nintendo fan worth their salt, knows the name River City Ransom. It’s been five years since Conatus Creative launched a successful Kickstarter campaign to revive the series with a direct sequel to the NES cult classic, and just over a year since the game was released on Steam. Since then, the 2D side-scrolling beat’em up has yet to be released on consoles and I’m left wondering why. The Nintendo Switch was made for games like this; it is the ultimate couch co-op game. Wouldn’t it be great to grab your best bud and just wail on a bunch of street thugs for a bit?Seriously, how hasn’t this game been released on the Nintendo Switch yet? It makes me so mad, I could BARF!
Steve’s Pick – Overwatch
So confession time: I not really an Overwatch player. In fact, I’ve never even played a round of the game. Not. One. Round. I guess I’m not the kind of game that sees himself sitting in front of the TV plying round after round of an FPS. I would, however, be totally down for that if the experience were in the palm of my hand. The Nintendo Switch has recently become my go-to console for big name online competitive titles like Fortnite. But Overwatch could be somethign spectacular if released on the Nintendo Switch. Minimal long-term time investment coupled with lack of competition would mean full servers and plenty of opportunities to get my ass kicked regularly. Bring it on, Blizzard.
Andy’s Pick – Dead by Daylight
The Nintendo Switch is in dire need a good horror game. The offerings are pretty slim to say the least. I actually bought Hollow the other day for a whopping 1.99…and I still sort of regret it. And while I sit here hoping that Fatal Frame will one day come to Nintendo’s portable console (seriously, just port Maiden of Black Water and I’ll buy it in a heartbeat), I wonder if a game like Dead by Daylight could work on the Nintendo Switch. The idea of playing a few rounds of the intense asymmetric multiplayer horror title from my bed with my headphones plugged in and the lights completely off sounds too good to pass up. And given the likes of Friday the 13th: The Game being completely abandoned due to legal reasons, it would give Dead by Daylight a chance to really take a foothold on the Nintendo Switch.
Andy & Steve Pick – Monster Hunter World
Monster Hunter World took the world by storm early in 2018, quickly becoming Capcom’s most successful game of all time. At the time of its release, many speculated if the game would ever come to the Nintendo Switch, or if it would even be possible to do so. Iron Galaxy’s CEO Adam Boyes tweeted that they not only want to do the port, but that they can do it well. Of course at this time nearly every Nintendo Switch owner collectively jumped for joy, but no news has come out of this since then. If Iron Galaxy actually does pull this off, though, it will be a day of celebration for Monster Hunter fans.
So there you have it, our picks for five current generation games we want to see on the Nintendo Switch. Of course there are many more that would be a great addition to the Switch, and that’s where you come in.
