During Steam Next Fest, I had the pleasure of trying out Townseek, an adventure, exploration, management, and trading game. When I approached it, I have to admit I had certain expectations. Instead, I was delightfully surprised by its charming and unique gameplay that instantly left me wanting to play it again.

Townseek begins aboard an airship, from there you are able set off and explore the surrounding areas. Along the way, you encounter a fascinating cast of characters, each with their own distinct personalities and desires. As you trade and complete tasks for them, your reputation grows, which is crucial for unlocking more trading options and uncovering additional parts of the story. While the story is more in the background, it’s still really enjoyable to learn about your shark-folk ancestors and their adventures. The real pleasure is the gameplay.

Townseek is all about the items you obtain and the surrounding towns you can trade with. Items can be obtained through farming, mining, fishing, or even by purchasing them inexpensively from different towns. Each town also features “high in-demand” items that change every few minutes but offer better payouts. The money you earn can be exchanged for various items, more seeds, customization options for your airship, or even additional tools to unlock more ways to acquire tradable goods. As a point and click adventure, the interface was very intuitive and user-friendly.

After my brief time with Townseek, it’s safe to say that I intend to sail the skies again and revisit this adorable little world the moment it releases. I’m genuinely excited to play the final product. If this game sounds appealing to you, you’re in luck, as it’s expected to come out later this year.
