Starting off the countdown of our 15 Most Anticipated Horror Games is a title I only came across very recently. It was pretty hard to miss given how much it exploded over social media this passed weekend. I am talking about Don’t Scream, short horror experience inspired by ’90s camcorder found footage.

Created by Joure & Joe – a pair indie game developers who love horror, the premise of Don’t Scream is a simple one – don’t scream, literally. The challenge is to explore a creepy forest for 18 minutes without losing your shit. There is catch however to this haunting little premise: time only ticks when you move, making it the PERFECT game to force on your friends who happen to scare easily. For you see, if you scream, it’s game over and you have to restart. While I’m not one for jump scares, I am one for watching others being scared shitless and I cannot wait to see the amount of hilarious content this game is going to generate across Twitch, YouTube, and TikTok.

Don’t Scream is the brainchild of the same duo currently working on Paranormal Tales – a next-gen bodycam horror game which will likely end up on this countdown list as well. Joure & Joe’s ability to craft terrifying experiences with limited resources is a testament to their creativity and commitment to the horror genre. Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Don’t Scream is certainly looking to be a scream, baby. Looking to pay homage to the chilling aesthetics of The Blair Witch Project, Don’t Scream’s eerie, found-camcorder-footage vibe promises an immersive experience that feels straight out of a ’90s horror movie.

As the ominous release date of October 27th draws near, Don’t Scream has easily become one of my most anticipated horror games of the year. The combination of Unreal Engine 5’s power, the meticulous sound design, and the homage to classic horror aesthetics has me counting down the days. Now, all that’s left is for me to dig out a microphone and invite a few friends over for a ‘game night’.

Don’t Scream is a game that’s sure to keep many players on the edge, and many onlookers entertained. So stock up on your favorite popcorn, and get ready to navigate the shadows of Pineview Forest – because with Don’t Scream, terror has never been this enticing.
