2019 was considered a “down year” by most, but that does not mean 2019 did not have its share of incredible games. But what is the game of the year? We here at Duel Screens will be making the case for various titles for your consideration.

For your consideration – Apex Legends

Apex Legends came out of nowhere in March of this year and was met with a flurry of players hungry for a new Battle Royale experience. Part Hero Shooter and All Battle Royale, Apex was different, and well executed. Over 50 million players jumped into the battlefield, ready to battle it out, match after match with very little signs of slowing down.

The frantic gameplay and tight shooting that Respawn is known for is married here with a true sense of teamwork and edge of your seat moments. Tons of weapons and interesting character abilities make each match feel fresh. Seeing the various combinations of teams you can make, and which work well with or against others, is only part of the challenge.

Just as people began to wane, Respawn Entertainment added more content. While the bumpy launch of micro-transactions was well documented, Respawn reacted swiftly to consumer concerns and demands and is now entering its third season. Apex continues to innovate and iterate on its stellar gameplay with additions of new characters, a new map, and ever changing balance tweaks.

That is why Apex Legends…is Game of the Year 2019.

What do you think? Is Apex Legends your Game of the Year? Love it? Hate it? Drop a comment below!
