2019 was considered a “down year” by most, but that does not mean 2019 did not have its share of incredible games. But what is the game of the year? We here at Duel Screens will be making the case for various titles for your consideration.
For Your Consideration – Borderlands 3
The amount of triple A shooters that came out this year is unprecedented. Among them were a variety of “looter-shooters” as well. Most of em crashed and burned, even after a strong start, and while player-bases still exist they are niche at best. Borderlands 3 rose above them all this year and reminds you why it is king.
The granddaddy of the looter-shooter genre is back and badder than ever. The character classes have such a robust offering of play-styles and customizations that each skill tree feels like its own character. Whether you’re choosing pets, mech augmentations, or a brand new offering of Siren powers; the way you play changes based on your decisions. All of this, on top of the absolutely menacing gun design offers an added layer of customization. With most weapons bolstering two firing options, rockets after a rain of bullets may become as familiar as breathing.
With tons of guns, a signature raunchy charm, fast-paced FPS gunplay and a cast of lovable characters this game has it all. Borderlands 3 rose above its contemporaries this year to deliver the definitive looter-shooter experience. It also offers far more on a surface level than most triple A games out right now. You will get lost in Borderlands 3, loving every minute of whirlwind chaos and wanton destruction you end up in. You can even bring a friend along for some added mayhem, online or on the couch.
This is why Borderlands 3 is… Game of the Year 2019
