2019 was considered a “down year” by most, but that does not mean 2019 did not have its share of incredible games. But what is the game of the year? We here at Duel Screens will be making the case for various titles for your consideration.

For your consideration – Resident Evil 2

While the likes of Shadow of the Colossus, Crash Bandicoot, and the recently released Medievil were built off of the code of their initial releases, Resident Evil 2 was created from the ground up as big budget AAA experience.

Taking what fans adored from this survival horror franchises’ most seminal installments, Resident Evil 2 is everything we could ever hope for in a remake and so much more. For a city that is teeming with the undead, Raccoon City has never felt more alive. From the city streets to the iconic Raccoon City Police Department Station, everything is brought to life in a way never thought possible courtesy of the RE Engine.

Uprooting its pre-rendered backgrounds for a full 3D environment with complete camera control, gameplay with modern third-person shooter sensibilities, and just enough tweaks to the script and the pacing to keep the experience fresh and surprise-filled for even the most ardent Resident Evil fan, RE2 sets the standard by which all future remakes will be measured against. And with the newly announced Resident Evil 3 remake just around the corner, we’ll see if lighting will strike twice for Capcom.

That is why Resident Evil…is Game of the Year 2019.

What do you think? Is Resident Evil 2 your Game of the Year? Love it? Hate it? Drop a comment below!
