Last year, I decided I wanted to dip my toes in the world of indie table top gaming. We had been interviewing indie video game devs for over 8 years at that point, and it seemed like a natural fit. Over the last few years, I slipped deeper and deeper into the TTRPG (Table Top Role Playing Game) space as well as board gaming, and thought it would be a great move to try and hear the stories behind those areas of gaming.
Thus – Dev Dive: Side Table was born! indieRift’s premier indie tabletop gaming interview show. We have another batch of shows scheduled to record in the coming weeks, but I thought it would be a great time to drop our first season in one spot so you can see for yourself how awesome the people behind these projects really are.
Season 1 – Episode 1 – Dead Alive
This is the show that started it all. Bernie and Brendan sit down and talk about their flagship game, Lunar Rush, and show us a new project gaining steam called Cyber Pet Quests.
Episode 2 – Smirk & Dagger Games
This Game Is Killer took me by surprise a couple years ago at PAX Unplugged. It’s simple yet zany design is a blast. Curt, Gaeton and Ivan sit down with me to go all in on game development philosophy and even revealed a new project – A Place for All My Books!
Episode 3 – Mini Game Tins!
Travel sized games take on a whole new meaning with Galen’s Games mini tin series! Galen McCown dives deep into what goes into making a perfect bite sized game…and how to make a huge experience in a tiny travel sized package.
Episode 4 – Gehenna Gaming
This is the first episode where we shift gears from board gaming to the realm of TTRPGs. Nick Fancia sits down to talk about bringing DM’s and GM’s from all over the country to work gaming conventions. Not only that – but Gehenna’s own TTRPG Eldritch Automata!
Episode 5 – Solis Games
Chris Solis comes on to talk about their brand new version of their flagship 1v1 card battler game branded in the Massive-Verse! Quick battles, sure, but the story getting to those high octane table top fights was anything but.
Episode 6 – Abducktion, Tiny Laser Heist
Abducktion was one of those games that flooded by facebook feed. Yes I still have facebook. Yes I am an “old”. Josh sits down with me to talk about how the massive success of Tiny Laser Heist got them to Abducktion. Tiny hands. Tiny Ducks. BIG HEART.
Espisode 7 – Northstar Games
This might have been the most in-depth and informative interview indieRift has ever done. Domenic is an INCREDIBLE mind and a sweetheart. Nature is a force at the table top!
Episode 8 – The Delver’s Guide to Beastworld
We slide back into the TTRPG world with Cullen joining me to talk all about making a supplement for Dungeons and Dragons. Delver’s Guide is a phenomenal book with SO MUCH to add to your game!
That’s it for season 1! Season 2 started a few months after this with another 9 episodes. So sing by, make sure to hit that subscribe button, and tell your friends!
