Joining us this week is Adam Brennecke, Game Director & Producer of a little game called Grounded.

Grounded is one of the latest big attractions for Xbox Game Pass and it seems to be paying off in a big way. Currently residing as the global best-seller on Steam and with over 1.5 million players within 48 hours of launching in Early Access/Preview, Grounded is an undeniable hit. A lot of the game’s success has to do with how supportive Microsoft has been:

“We started [Grounded] before the acquisition. “[Microsoft] are super supportive and are primarily there to make Grounded better in any way that they possibly can. One of the really great things is that we were able to work directly with the user research at Microsoft. They helped us with the Arachnophobia Mode, the tutorialization and the accessibility. “

Adam was also shocked at how much creativity Grounded’s community has squeezed out of the game in its current state. It has inspired the team to keep adding more content and build on their already strong foundation:

“It’s amazing how creative people can be with such a limited set of tools. We want to add more stuff just for players to mess with.”

So much hyperbole. An unfinished and low on content GaaS game isn’t „paying off“ anything.

All their other projects are at least 3 years away, so a bit early for praise, don’t you think?
