In the vast realm of challenging action games, Lies of P stands out as a beacon of brilliance, rivaling the renowned Souls series in ways that truly captivate the soul of the genre. While exploring several souls-likes, from Nioh to Mortal Shell, I never quite found one that hit that resonant spot—until I embarked on the Lies of P journey. It’s a game that, despite a few minor adjustments needed, seamlessly blends animation quality, weapon feedback, and level design into a harmonious symphony of gaming bliss.

What truly sets Lies of P apart is its ability to maintain a consistent quality throughout the game. Unlike some other titles in the genre, where certain segments might become tiresome or frustrating, this game delivers a consistently engaging experience. Its combat mechanics, boss designs, and enemy variety make each encounter an exhilarating journey, reminding players of the genre’s best moments while offering refreshing new elements like the weapon assembly system which allows players to mix and match blades and handles to create custom weapons with unique abilities.

While some might expect a Pinocchio-inspired story to be convoluted or hard to grasp, the game subtly incorporates its twisted references without overshadowing the gameplay. Lies of P excels in being what it claims to be—a game that could easily be mistaken for a FromSoft production, marking one of the highest praises for its developers’ achievement.

This game is more than just an impressive debut from its studio; it’s a testament to the passion and dedication poured into creating an exceptional single-player adventure that truly deserves high praise. If you’re seeking a game that takes the essence of the Souls series and crafts it into something both familiar and refreshingly distinct, Lies of P might just be your next addictive obsession—a game that stays true to its vision and delivers an experience that keeps you yearning for more.
